Testing Blood Glucose

Wash your hands thoroughly in warm soapy water. Rinse well and dry completely. Warming fingers can increase blood flow.

Remove a new test strip from the vial. Be sure to replace the cap after removing the strip. Insert the test strip into the test strip slot with the silver bars facing up and toward the meter. The meter will turn on automatically. Check that the code number on the meter matches the code on the vial of test strips you are using. When the blood drop symbol flashes, you are ready to perform a test.

Obtain a blood sample with a lancing device such as Accu-Chek® Softclix or Accu-Chek® Multiclix. Lance the side of your fingertip and squeeze gentle until a drop of blood forms.

Touch and hold the drop of blood to the edge of the test strip within the curved section. Hold your finger to the edge of the strip until the yellow window is completely filled with blood. Do not place the drop of blood on top of the strip. The blood will be drawn into the strip automatically.

If the beeper is turned on, the meter will beep to signal that the test is beginning. An hourglass symbol will flash on the display until measurement is completed. Your result will then appear.

Your result is automatically recorded in the meter’s memory. You may also want to record the glucose value in your record book or diary.

For more information on how to use your meter, please refer to the Accu-Chek® Advantage owners booklet.
